Privacy and Information Security
The Catholic University of America is legally and ethically obligated to protect the information provided by students, alumni, staff and faculty, as well as non-university individuals and businesses. Almost all employees will come into contact with confidential or sensitive information and are responsible for protecting it. This 30 minute training helps build awareness of the types of information that is subject to privacy laws and the types of security practices that we are required to follow when working or accessing sensitive information.

Compliance Awareness Training
Ethics and Integrity are the foundation of our mission at the Catholic University of America and they are necessary to our success. Individually and collectively we are accountable for understanding and complying with the laws and policies related to our work. To educate you about regulatory risks in common university activities and the resources in place to help you avoid those risks, the university has implemented mandatory online compliance awareness training. The training is part of the university-wide Compliance and Ethics Program and takes approximately15 minutes to complete.

FERPA Awareness
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) awareness training is required to be taken by all employees of The Catholic University of America (faculty, staff and student workers). The training is a 15-25 minute tutorial followed by a short quiz. There are three types of FERPA trainings available based on school/department/office. Supporting material and confirmation e-mail is provided. Re-training is required every two (2) years.

Harassment Prevention Training
Harassment training is required of all Catholic University of America employees (faculty, staff and student workers). The training will be set up by recruitment for new employees. Current employees are required to re-train every two (2) years.

HIPAA Awareness
The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) serves to protect not only confidential medical information but also pension and benefit related information. Those employees working with benefit related information, must complete an in person or online training as directed by the HR Benefits Team. Refresher training is required once (1) a year. New Employee Orientation
Newly hired staff are required to complete New Employee Orientation at the beginning of their employment. Orientation occurs most Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please contact the HR Talent team with any questions.
